“This gives life to thee”
Thank you for joining me at Shakespeare Plays Music.
The main aim of this site is to help producers, directors and actors to research and locate songs for their upcoming Shakespearean play. From time to time, I’ll also review the latest contemporary offerings inspired by Shakespeare – just for fun.
Why is music so important?
Shakespeare can be frightening to many audience members. Many’s the time I’ve seen a edgy audience relax back into the chairs when a song begins. Shakespeare was aware of music’s power – from the bawdy pub songs of Twelfth Night to the haunting, evocative tunes of The Tempest. I’ve longed for a site that brings all the songs together under one virtual ‘roof’. This website is my attempt to make this happen. *Note: you have discovered this site within days of me putting it up – it’s still only a baby! More music will be added shortly. You can sign up and I’ll let you know when I’ve updated the site.
Enjoy.
